Youth Referees of the Year
ATTENTION: Assignors, Assessors, and Mentors:
Each year, it is the honor of the Iowa Referee Committee (IRC) to name a young male and female referee of the year. And, just like our winning State Cup teams, the names of our Youth Referees of the Year are sent to Midwest Region 2 Headquarters for consideration at that level. The four Regional winners are then considered at the National Convention early next year.
It is simply not possible for the members of the IRC Executive Committee to see all the worthy candidates in the course of the year, and that is why we are asking for your help to nominate young men and women who embody the ideals of youth soccer. Our ideal candidate is not necessarily one with the "best" referee skills, although that can be a factor in your consideration. Rather, we are looking for candidates who give back to the game and community. Pretty much every past winner at the Regional level in my tenure has been someone who "aspires to be a Grade 7 Referee", but who also mentors other referees, helps at the club level, or volunteers in the community.
Requirements for consideration are fairly moderate. They must be a registered referee, and eligible to play on a U19 team (or younger).
There is a 2016 Young Referee of the Year Nomination Form available at US Youth Soccer Downloads (search for "2016 Young") that will help the IRC with our deliberations. I ask that you think about the young referees you saw over the prior fall and this past spring seasons, and forward me a completed form for consideration by August 31 so that the IRC can review all candidates in September and make our selections.
I simply cannot see every young referee in the state each year. Your help is what makes this process work. If you have any questions, please ask me or any of the IRC executive committee members.
I appreciate your help and what you do for soccer.
